New Woods
Choosing new wood doesn't mean that the environment was harmed in any way. Forests can be managed properly. Many trees have to be moved due to urban development and instead of being slated for the fire pit are made instead into products and enjoyed for many years to come. Some trees are blighted with an insect and begin to die and so need to be cut down, they make beautiful conversation pieces with unusual board markings with varied and interesting grain patterns. Our Ambrosia Maple is one. This maple tree was hit with a blight of beetles and as a result the wood takes on the most beautiful markings. All of our products are treated in the high heat of the kiln process. This maple is one breathtaking wood ready for installation in your project. It looks outstanding done in a natural finish or stained. At the IDS Show in January 2010, we highlighted a whitewash stain on this wood and it was said to be the most beautiful floor at the Show! It was finished off with a non-yellowing and low luster finish.
Salvaged Woods
Buried under ground:
For many years and unearthed with development of lands. For example: The Queen Wharf from the 1800's was recently dug up in Toronto and amazingly discovered as a Condo was going in. This wood with History to it and hues made only over time by the wet earth it was covered in. What a terrific find. This beautiful treasure has been made into our wood products. What a talking piece.
Buried under water:
In freshwater as in the Huntsville area. Crafted by nature in the old growth forests that once covered Ontario, and beautifully preserved in the icy depths of our lakes, the finest hardwoods ever grown are being individually recovered and painstakingly refined to provide you with an exquisite product that will last for generations. The logs are retrieved by trained scuba divers and brought to the surface. Easily well over 400 years old.
In saltwater as in the example of The Panama Canal. In the 1900's The Canal was dug out and as a result some land fully forested was flooded for many years. Now these First Growth trees are being retrieved and used in wood products today. The variety of species and the width of these trees along with their stunning beauty hope to have a new future to be admired for many more years to come.

Reclaimed Woods
Wood with a History of being previously used and now made into something new and reused. Perhaps reclaimed from centuries old barns, buildings or factories and taking on a brand new life. Reclaimed woods are either original faced or resawn. Resawn would be material sliced from the inside beams. Generally does not include saw marks but will include checking and wormy pin holes. Has often been choosen in more formal settings and is often hardwood. Original faced are boards still with the original colour in the pantina. It includes more colour variations, saw marks and nail holes just to mention a few. We have processes to highlight them or reduce them.
All products can be unfinished or custom pre-finished - painted or stained.
